A smart wristband is being issued to hundreds of people living with Dementia in a project supported by Cambridgeshire Constabulary to help safeguard some of the most vulnerable members of society.
The wristband contains the next of kins contact name and number allowing the person to retain their freedom and independence but also giving them an extra measure of safety if they forget where they are and how to get home.
Members of the public who come across someone wearing a wristband and looking lost or confused are asked to reassure them and use their mobile phone to read the information on the band. To do this hold your phone against the code on the band and your screen will then display the name and number of the next of kin for you to phone.
To request a band, fill in a Herbert Protocol form. It can be filled in online at any stage after a person has been diagnosed with dementia. Completed forms will be stored securely and opened if the person is reported missing.
The form helps to collate key pieces of information such as physical description, familiar places, health details and an up-to-date photo which can be helpful to others.
For more information and to request a band and to complete an online form visit the Herbert Protocol page on Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s website.
